Only 20°F outside, so it’s a good day to process older photographs.

Though I must have passed these subjects in a back alley many times before, on this particular September morning they jumped out at me. I’m learning we can pass the same things over and over, but their appearance is constantly changing.

  1. Yes, it is strange, how our attention allows us to see some things easily, but walk right past others – until, one day – “now how could I have not seen that?”

I like these two images. The first one has several surprises in that the placement of those rivets(?) is not uniform on either side of the doors.

And I like that the 2nd image has that loose latch just hanging there, interrupting the otherwise regular pattern.

  2. Thanks for your comments, Flo. I agree it’s the disruption of pattern which makes these (somewhat) more interesting.

Ah, but what I’m learning is that it’s not my “fault”! 🙂 Now when I pass that silver door I remember to look, but the light hasn’t yet been the same as when the rivets appeared to be nails. The time of day, a cloudless sky, the season changing the angle of sunlight through the alley, that I was walking east instead of west… All went into making these subjects stand out at that particular moment in time.
