Walking in Chicago winters, I spend a lot of time looking down.
Slush, eh? I’ve been taken with dirty, plowed piles of snow, myself, while easing into serious-ish photography. Extreme cold, salt, dirt, and bright sunlight have created some interesting shapes, a dusting of fresh snow adds contrast, and the sun near the horizon provides reddish highlights. An unimpressive camera and a near-total lack of skill, both correctable, are already (it’s been a whole week) giving some images I’m almost willing to post on Flickr. Just what I need: a new hobby. Really, it’s just what I need.
