Horizontal lines of a colorful rusted door and concrete.

The graphic lines and complementary colors of blue and orange attracted me to this subject in an alley.

It might look well printed on metallic paper, and tie into the series of doors I photographed awhile back in the catacombs of Savannah.

Edit October 2, 2010: I replaced the original image with another, attempting to bring out more color and contrast. Following is version 1 for comparison—change is more obvious in the larger versions:

Impressions of fallen leaves in a concrete sidewalk

{click image to view large}

I found a stretch of sidewalk which must have been poured in the autumn when leaves were falling. They’ve left beautiful impressions, and I took a bunch of shots. They might make nice greeting cards. 😉

Alley buildings and sky reflected in water.

Walking the alleys after a rainstorm, it was a good day to focus on reflections.

Exposed bed springs against a colorful felt.

Another find on a different day, in the alleyways of our neighborhood.

It’s a little creepy to be walking alone in those venues with a nice camera, but also a bit like traveling to a different city and exploring with fresh eyes.

Nikon D300; f/8.0 @ 1/125sec, ISO 2500 (handheld);
18.0-200.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 105mm (157mm EFL); focus distance .90m

Walking the alleyways in our neighborhood recently, I found this in the bed of a salvage truck. Cool. 🙂

Bright red and yellow showing through gaps in a latticed fence.

The flash of bright red behind this fence caught my eye while walking through an alley. Then I discovered the yellow, and even a bright green—though I couldn’t fit that into the frame from my vantage point.

Captured in camera, this scene is not cropped and post-processing involved only tweaking for color and contrast.  Though I know what it is, I still have trouble parsing the image!

On a side note, my Web hosting server was attacked through Google’s FeedBurner yesterday, temporarily suspending my account and putting it risk for deletion. I’ve had to disable FeedBurner and delete the feed, so I’ve no idea if subscribers are still receiving updates… If not, and you see this note, you can re-subscribe using the orange RSS link above the right-hand menu column.
