This image was photographed recently while attending the Miksang Level 1 workshop in Boulder, Colorado. It was discovered in a back alley during the “texture” assignment.

I first took Level 1 three years ago, and have since completed Levels 2-4. It was interesting to notice that I felt more free in tackling the assignments this time around—less confined by trying to figure out the “rules”.  There’s really only one criteria in this practice: Was it a fresh perception, and did you express it clearly? Ok, that’s two. 🙂

Running errands is always more entertaining when I bring my camera! This was photographed in the parking lot of a grocery store.

First spotted from across the street in my dentist’s chair… I was in a hurry to get out of there before the sun moved too far!

I was surprised to note this was shot at 1/20 of a second, handheld. You have to love a stabilized lens in low light situations!

Just the other day… I went downtown to visit with a friend, and spent some time wandering around before and after with my camera. Returning home, I was surprised to discover how many photographs had this theme—without conscious intent! (All three were captured on that outing.)

The last one is for Andreas.  🙂

The other day I visited an exhibition of Charles James fashion design at the Chicago History Museum. Though photography wasn’t allowed in that exhibit, it was elsewhere. At some point I realized I didn’t have to absorb the information displays, but instead could simply enjoy the surroundings. This image is of one space that drew my eye.

You have to love a stabilized lens in low light! Too, DxO Optics Pro does a great job of noise reduction during RAW processing.

To sample colors for this image using Photoshop, I first converted to 8-bit Mode and then applied Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic with a Cell Size of 200 square. The resulting palette is pretty cool!

Photographed through an airplane window as the wings were deiced, color first caught my eye on this gray day. Then I noticed the interlocking shapes and lines.
